During the 2 weeks of March 26th through April 6th, monumental changes were made to the St. Nicholas Campus. On Monday the 26th 12 REMC workers descended on the St. Nick Campus to change the electrical supply to the hall and old school. The power was off for about 3 hrs. to the entire campus and Frank Riehle's farm as well. Power was restored after the utility pole near where the playground equipment had been, was moved closer to the hall and out of the footprint of the new building. A new electrical supply was run to energize the old school building and the portable school office trailer.
On the 27th about 15 ETC employees met on site to start pulling new cables for phones, internet and fire detector systems. New wires were run from the portable classrooms, through the basement of the church and under the portable office trailer into the basement of the old school for the fire protection and into the old computer lab where the phone system processors are now located. The rest of the week ETC continued to program and identify lines to establish communications to all the phone locations.
Now the power supply to the old school office is shut off, phone lines disconnected, water and LP gas shut off as well. A chain link fence was installed on Friday April 6th in preparation of demolishing the old school office on April 14th. On Saturday April 7th all remaining salvageable items remaining in the building will be removed including toilets, doors, windows, cabinets, lights and ceiling fans. All copper, aluminum and steel will be recycled. All plastic and carpet will be put in a dumpster and hauled away.
